Triumph for Alex!

Massive thanks to Alex for yet another truly spectacular Hallowe’en Event. Needless to say the Village Hall was packed and it was fabulous to see so many young families joining in.

You had to be there to fully appreciate the work that had gone into creating a really spooky entrance experience leading on into a room dripping with miscanthus and awash with laser lighting etc.

Special thanks to DJ Colin, Judith & Sharon from the Committee and to Alex’s Team of Caroline, Lynne, Diane & friends; also to everyone who donated cakes & Raffle Prizes

It was great to see Festival Queen Romilly, with such a wealth of supporters all really contributing to the success of the evening.

Final word from Alex: “I’m already planning next year’s event”. The village is very fortunate to have you!

Next up!

Jumble Update

Thank you for all your help & support for the Festival’s Autumn Jumble Sale. I’m delighted to let you know that we raised around £1100 which, considering the awful
weather on Friday and Saturday, is just brilliant.

All the dealers were well satisfied and everyone took a date slip for the next sale on March 16th 2019 – they say they really look forward to our sale and the sandwiches & cake are much appreciated!

The clearer gave £108 for the left over clothes, books & shoes which will go to various aid programmes both here and abroad and we took bric-a-brac and toys to the YMCA and other local charity outlets.

Thanks to Alex for overseeing everything and to Festival Queens Romilly and Niamh and their supporters Beth, Sadie & Matthew for pitching in so willingly.

Just 2 weeks now to Alex’s Hallowe’en Spectacular on Friday 26th October from 5.30pm in the Village Hall. Don’t miss this – Alex is pulling out all the stops and promises his best ever Hallowe’en Disco Party with fun & games and lots of prizes to be won. Adults are welcome to bring along your own wine, beer etc.

Jumble Sale

Brilliant News!

I am delighted to let you know that the Spring Jumble Sale on Saturday raised £1490.

As you know this is a major fund raiser for the Whitsuntide Festival and we are well on track for our White Doves Festival Day, 2nd June, commemorating the centenary of the ending of WW1.

Huge thanks to the Community of Goosnargh & Whittingham. Once again,  the superb quality of the donated goods has most definitely put this event on the Dealers’ maps and we thank them for braving the cold on a very difficult day for travelling.

With masses of support to sort the jumble, run the stalls and clear away we were finished in record time, and all left over items are now on their way to local and international aid agencies. Thank you to our army of volunteer helpers who support the Committee so magnificently and particular congratulations to the Good as New team – £400 was raised on that stall alone!

Special thanks to Retiring Queen Niamh and her sister Roisin (Festival Queen 2016) and Festival Queen Elect Romilly plus new Princesses Sadie and Isobel and friend Beth for pitching in to help with such enthusiasm.

If you sent in some jumble, baked a cake, helped with the leaflet drop or contributed your support in any other way – THANK YOU!

We are now signing on Maypole Dancers, first rehearsal 4.45pm Thursday 12th April in the Village Hall PR3 2BH.

If you are thinking of entering the Decorated Float competition help and advice is available and there are photo’s on the website www.whitfestival.com to spark your imagination.

For entry forms for the Decorated Floats and vehicles or the Shops, Houses & Wheelbarrows competition and lots of friendly advice just call in at The Chippy – it’s not too early to start planning!

Visitors from Canada & Jumble Sale Success

Visitors from Nova Scotia

Our surprise visitors from Kentville Nova Scotia, Laura Churchill Duke, husband David (who took the picture) and children Daniel and Thomas.

“We cannot thank you enough for your amazing hospitality yesterday in Goosnargh! We have been raving about our trip to everyone who will listen!”
                               –  Laura Churchill Duke

In a space of just a few hours the family met villagers preparing for the jumble sale, including Andy and Be Thiele (pictured with Steph and David Butters) visited St Mary’s Church & Goosnargh Oliverson’s, enjoyed Fish and Chips from Jill at Goosnargh Chippy and visited Tom and Mary Ibison in their cottage.

Laura had prepared questions about our Festival and the Community and will be writing and broadcasting back home in Nova Scotia. The children attend KCA (Kings County Academy) in Kentville and remember our visits in connection with the Twinning.

Thank you to all who sent cards, information etc at such short notice.

Jumble News

Record Breaker!!!
Wow! Massive thanks to the Community for your amazing generosity. The goods donated set us on track to beat all previous totals for the Jumble Sale which raised over £1500!

Thank you to all our volunteer helpers, the hard work most certainly paid off; and very special thanks to those who coped with the challenging task of charity shopping the last of the unsold goods once the clearer had left.

Our next Sale is on Saturday 14th October 2017 – please put the date in your diaries now.

Overheard at the Sale:

“Look what he’s bought! Motorcycle leathers! He’s going to kill himself now!!”

Jumble Sale!
